Poha

Poha or pohe is a quick breakfast or snack food made of beaten rice or flattened rice from the Maharashtrian and Gujarati cuisines. Poha is made using beaten rice, onions, peanuts and green chilies. It is usually eaten on its own along with a cup of tea or coffee.

Ingredients

250gm flattened rice
1 medium size chopped onion
2 tablespoons peanuts
2 chopped green chilies
1 sprig curry leaves
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
Salt to taste
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method:-

Heat oil in kadhai, splutter mustard seeds when seeds stop spluttering add curry leaves, green chilies n saute for 30seconds.
Add peanuts n cook for minute on low medium flame.
Add onion n saute till it transparent.
Add turmeric powder and salt, mix it.
In between take strainer wash poha in running water n add it in kadhai n keep mixing. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add sugar n mix it.
Pour lemon juice n mix it.
Poha is ready to serve.

Suggestions:-

Do not soak poha in water. Gently wash flattened rice in running water or u can pour little water in it n mix it, this will help it to get wet, always use thick poha (jada poha). U can also add boiled potatoes  before adding turmeric powder and salt.
